As discussed during lecture on August 26, the U.S. households with telephones has leveled off to about 95%. These are a few benefits of landlines.
1. Home phones are beneficial because you don’t have to worry about “wasting” or going over on your
daytime minutes .
2. With house phones it’s very rare that a called is “dropped” or you lose service.
3. With a house phone you can have many phones connected to one line.
4. They’re dramatically less expensive to own than a cellphone.
5. If there are certain people or companies you don’t want to have access to your direct cell line then you can give them the landline number so they aren’t able to contact you as easily.

Yes what you said about landlines are all true, but I can do without the extra phone bill. Also, the extra features a cell phone offers such as Internet, gaming, text messaging, gps, and alot of apps beats out any sort of pros any land line could offer.

ReplyDeleteI agree with the benefits that you listed, mainly the one about how it is rare to lose service and have dropped calls. In case of an emergency this would be very important, because there are many times where I am in different places in my house where I do not have phone service, or where my calls constantly get dropped. I do believe that the advantages of having a cell phone are greater due to the technology, but there are many cases when having a landline is still important. It is worth having one for the little amount it costs now.

ReplyDeleteI love this post considering the fact that I am about to pay my cell phone bill. I can also connect with the "dropped" or lost connections, however I think the way we as Americans live in our busy society, house phone usage will only continue to drop as our advancement of cell phones continue.

Landlines... its funny how popular they once were and today, i don't know three people with one. People have flocked to cellphones and they aren't even that good. when you think about how many times you never hear your phone or when it goes straight to voice mail. Myabe we are all vein and thats why we carry cellphones.
